Memetastic

I am so excited!!! I got tagged to do a meme!!! I never get tagged for stuff! Thank you Dawn!!
So, these are the rules: (1)Link to the person that tagged you. (2)Post the rules on your blog. (3)Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (I apologize in advance!!!)(4)Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. (5)Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

Here goes:

1. I like to eat each food on my dinner plate individually. If I have peas, rice, and chicken on my plate then I eat each item one at a time. It is weird and I am not super rigid about it but in general I will eat all the peas, then all the rice, then all the chicken. It doesn't have to be in that order. And Thanksgiving is one time that I always mix my foods.

2. I hate brushing my teeth and flossing. It takes too long and it just is an annoying thing I have to do twice a day. But after it is done I feel really good and I love knowing my mouth is super clean. I know it's weird.

3. I don't like taking baths. I am a chick and I don't like baths or bath stuff.

4. I love school/office supplies. I am like a kid in a candy store at Staples. I think being a teacher will be so great because I will have justification for my addiction.

5. I haven't taken my laptop to school with me yet. I got it so I could take it to school with me but I haven't needed to yet. I think it will be more useful once midterms and exams hit. At my school there are tons of computer labs so I don't really need my laptop. But I love my laptop, even if I don't take it anywhere.

6. I can't wait to be a big bellied pregnant lady. I love the attention for the most part. I am really excited about this baby and pregnancy. I am also really worried about having twins. Not that I don't want twins, but OMG! Our life would be so different. And it would be so hard at first, doubly hard.

I am going to tag Heather, Jen, Amanda, Cara, ChristianFanger. Have fun!!

Gourmand - My French Nickname

When I went to France after high school my host family called me a "gourmand". At the time I was a little offended, I thought they were calling me fat. It turns out that gourmand is a word that the French use for "lover of food". They were just pointing out the very obvious truth which is that I am a food lover. In order to further my food loving ways and to have some company in my food fests I give you a food meme. I was tagged by Clare's Dad to do this meme. Here are the rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Include the state and country you live in.
3. List top five favorite local restaurants.
4. Tag five other people and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I am in Georgia, USA. Here are my Top 5 Picks =)

1. El Kiosco, Mexican Restaurant. I am a huge, HUGE, fan of Mexican food, in almost any form. I could eat Mexican food everyday for the rest of my life. So of course I have to have a local Mexican restaurant that I can call "home". This place is very close to our house and the service is always great. The food isn't the best I have ever had but because of proximity I end up eating here way more often than any other Mexican restaurant.

2. Roma's Pizza. This is the best pizza I have had this side of the Mason Dixon line. Ben and I both LOVE their pizza. It is New York style big thin slices of pizza and we eat way more of this stuff than we should. I guarantee we will both gain about 10 lbs in the next few months because we will be going to this place for all our dates. =)

3. Waffle House. This is a chain restaurant but it is mostly in Georgia and it is truly a staple in this state. I love hash browns and eggs and bacon. This place has no atmosphere and OK service but man they sure do know how to make some KILLER hash browns! The overly air conditioned, dingy, faded yellow decor is worth braving for those hot, crispy, cheesy, oniony potato strings. YUM!

4. French Market Grille. This is one of the nicest restaurants in town and for good reason. They have a very diverse and tasty menu. Their duck is to die for. And their chocolate mousse is by far the best I have ever had. They have a fabulous wine list and excellent atmosphere and service. This is where we take out of towners to prove that we aren't totally backwards here in the South.

5. Brusters Ice Cream. This is a Georgia original and oh my God! Thier ice cream is laced with crack, I swear! They make all thier own cones and ice cream and it is all delicious. My favorite items include thier hot fudge sundae and thier almond joy ice cream (chocolate ice cream with almonds and coconut). I have never been disappointed with any flavor I have tried, and they feature new flavors every month. We all scream for ice cream from Brusters! =)

So now that I have proven my gourmand status as well as my nerd status it is your turn! I am tagging Heather, Rich, One Hot Mama, Cara, and Dawn. Enjoy =)

Power Outage

We had a wicked awesome storm come through tonight and our power was out for a few hours. It was really cool! It reminded me a lot of a lazy summer I spent in France with a farm family when I was 18. Tonight I opened all the windows and I read magazines by candlelight, very la vie boheme =). Evie didn't even notice the power outage! Her life really isn't that affected by power. She can play in the dark the same as in the light. So what is your favorite memory or past time during a power outage??

Classic Dame

Your Score: Myrna Loy

You scored 28% grit, 23% wit, 28% flair, and 40% class!

You are class itself, the calm, confident "perfect woman." Men turn and look at you admiringly as you walk down the street, and even your rivals have a grudging respect for you. You always know the right thing to say, do and, of course, wear. You can take charge of a situation when things get out of hand, and you're a great help to your partner even if they don't immediately see or know it. You are one classy dame. Your screen partners include William Powell and Cary Grant, you little simmerpot, you.

Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the Classic Leading Man Test.

Hello World

I feel like having fun. But I have nothing really funny or witty to share. So, you get a joke. A bad joke. A really awful, bad, no good joke. =)

Mushroom walks into a bar. Bartender says "we don't serve your kind." Mushroom says "Why not, I'm a fungi."

Celeb Look Alikes: I'm Bootylicious Ya'll

http://www.myheritage.com
http://www.myheritage.com

I am surprised that I look 90% like Beyonce Knowles. I am flattered but still surprised. I really loved Amanda Peet on Studio 60 so that made me happy. I get the Jessica Simpson thing. She's blonde, I'm blonde. She's got a big smile, I have a big smile. But I am smarter than her and she is a better singer than me. Calista Flockhart...that is funny, I have never ever been compared to her. Rose McGowan is another crazy comparison, I guess they picked up on my dark and mysterious underbelly. =)

With the second picture I still look like Jessica Simpson. But now I look like Tori Spelling, Emma Thompson, Katie Couric, and Kristy Turlington too. I never thought those four had anything in common, but I guess they have me in common =)

So who do you like?

R.A. Child Development & Human Resources

I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.

I stole this idea from another Mom. I really like that job title. In a society that only values you for what you make outside of the home, I think this job title lends some credibility to the many Moms that stay home and take care of their children. I am a working stay at home Mom. I make money as a postpartum doula and as an art teacher at the local art museum. But when I define myself to others I typically say I am a stay at home Mom. Because that is my full time job. I do that other stuff part time.

I never thought I would have kids before I was 30 and I definitely never thought I would want to be a stay at home Mom. But here I am, 25 yrs old and staying at home with my daughter. And I love it. But I also love getting out of the house away from my daughter and feeling productive outside of my title as Mom.

As much as I want to say I am a SAHM* that feels completely fulfilled by motherhood it's just not true. I like working. Not necessarily in an office from 9-5 but, I enjoy the adult interaction and the definition of myself as more than a Mom. Not that being a Mom isn't a hefty job all on its own. But I am more than a Mom. I am me first. I am Mr. E's wife and Evelyn's Mom second. As any tried and true therapy alumni will tell you, you have to take care of yourself first, before you can effectively take care of anyone else.

So I am a SAHM, but I am me too. My identity is enhanced by being Evelyn's Mom, not dependant upon being her Mom. I am a person first. I am thwarting societies pressure for me to fit into the role of "Sublime Mother". And, I am setting an example for my daughter that she can be whoever she wants and still be herself too.

*SAHM: Stay at Home Mom

**This post was my best shot at talking about myself as a Mom. How did I do?

Call Me the BlogBurgler

So because of the sleep deprivation and my inability to think straight as a result of it, I am just going to rip off other bloggers great ideas for a while, kay?

Thank you again to Cara for this gem of a post idea.

This morning Mr. E (on the phone) asked me what the whole Humanism thing was about (#2 from yesterday's post) and where it came from (as in how did it enter into my life). Well Dear Readers it actually first came up when I read this excellent post. At the time I thought, "Self, this sounds pretty good, pretty right on." But I was a bit shy, I didn't want to jump into it. I think I was intimidated by its philosophical grandeur and it's impressive celebrity members. So I kinda forgot about it.

Until I read this post. I took this quiz and up popped Humanism again. This time I decided to jump in and swim around. Here's my top three results:

1. Unitarian Universalism
2. Secular Humanism
3. Neo-Pagan

So head over and take the quiz. Leave your top three in the comments. To make this extra fun I will award a prize to the first five commenters! And a prize goes to the first person to correctly guess what the prizes will be. =)

The Tooth Monster Strikes Again!

Yup, Evie is cutting her second tooth folks. It is so exciting! And exhausting, the poor little girl is handling it really well but she is super tired and clingy. And me? Well I am too happy to mind to much. Maybe after tooth #10 I will be over it but not yet =)

In other cool news there is an awesome new website called True Mom Confessions. It's a place where Moms (and I think Dads) can confess their real feelings about parenthood anonymously. I already made a confession today. It felt great! Now I see what the Catholics have been raving about for so long. Anyway, head over there and support an open honest website about parenting.
